The story, not that it was particularly 'in hand' to begin with, got a bit nuts and the ending wasn't very fulfilling. I became bored enough of fighting standard zombies, and received such small XP for them anyway, that I spent most of the game just running past them - something I got pretty good at. Riptide was certainly much harder as a result of the skill changes - but I didn't relish the new challenge as it just meant it took me longer to kill things. Quite a few other skills had been de-buffed as well. There is no re-spec option so I had to alter how I played and be more melee focused. Most of this was down to a skill that in DI that gave me a +30% chance of a critical hit now only gave a +3% chance. However, I found that the game play had changed quite a bit - I couldn't play the game in the same way – which was essentially to throw machetes into zombie’s heads. It has some nice new features such as protecting camps from horde attacks, a few new skills and abilities and some new enemies. Maybe it was a bridge too far - but I didn't enjoy this one as much as the original. 10h PlayedI enjoyed Dead Island and imported my DI character into Riptide.
